Sekolah Menengah Sains Tengku Abdullah (SEMESTA) previously known as Sekolah Menengah Sains Raub (1983 – 1989) was established by the Ministry of Education as a high-performance boarding school offering high quality education for gifted students aged thirteen to seventeen.

In 2011, SEMESTA was awarded with the highly-coveted Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi or High Performance School, a title bestowed to schools in Malaysia that have met stringent criteria including academic achievement, strength of alumni, international recognition, network and linkages.

In the non-academic field, SEMESTA has maintained a long and cherished tradition of sporting excellence, especially in the games of rugby, basketball and cricket. The school also produced a number of athletes competing in track and fields at state, national and international levels.
